History

In 2013/2014, the data center experts of Koyopa scanned through all of Norway to find the best potential sites for hyper-scale data centers. They looked for sites with large amounts of renewable power, robust grids, international fibre connections, space to build, low electricity prices and favorable tax regulations.

In cooperation with Nord-Østerdal Kraftlag, three sites in Alvdal, Tynset and Rendalen were highlighted as data centre sites, and the municipalities actively engaged in the development of the sites. Since then, the cooperation between Alvdal, Tynset and Rendalen has grown to include the regional power companies, grid operators and fibre network operators, as well as four new municipalities in the southern part of the region, close to Oslo airport.
